The WDSE•WRPT Board of Directors officially announces Patty Mester as the station’s new President and General Manager. Mester takes the helm as the fourth person in this leadership role since the station’s inception in 1953.

She has eagerly embraced her new role, bringing with her a deep knowledge of public media from nearly 10 years of experience as the Northeastern Regional Network Manager for Minnesota Public Radio. That experience is also combined with a passion for this region and the people who live and work here.

“Armed with a keen understanding of the digital age’s impact on how we seek information plus her continued interest in building relationships within the community, Patty will engage the greater Duluth and northwestern Wisconsin regions in the changing mission of public broadcasting” said Lisa Zakula, Past MPR Regional Development Advisory Council Chair.

As for Mester’s impressions of the station, first she values the loyal financial support of members and underwriters. She also sees a dedicated and talented staff that delivers viewers relevant local programs to the region, including many weekly series along with special interest documentaries. “What’s so exciting is that WDSE•WRPT has been and will continue to adapt to the ever-changing media landscape,” commented Mester. Her vision incorporates the station serving as a “hub” where the entire viewing community convenes through diverse partnerships and forums including TV, online and public events.

Jack Lavoy, retired Great Lakes Aquarium Director sums it up eloquently by saying, “With a strong, entrepreneurial background in the private sector and extensive leadership in public broadcasting, Patty Mester brings the right combination of vision and practical experience needed to build a bright and promising future for public television in the Northland.”

WDSE•WRPT exists to serve and celebrate the 431,000 people who proudly call the vibrant communities of northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin their home, delivering local, regional and national PBS programming, media services online resources and events.
