A nonprofit group that provides transportation to help individuals reach full potential and a TV show that promotes understanding of Native American communities were honored today with the Touchstone Award by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.

The foundation also presented a special Touchstone Award recognizing efforts by Mark Boben of Duluth to foster generosity. Boben has led efforts to enhance development and community resources in the Gary-New Duluth neighborhood.

Touchstone award nomination for Native Report

Excerpt from WDIO article:

For 13 years now, the Native Report on WDSE has been sharing stories about native people from all over the country. "These are people from within the community making a difference, among themselves, and definitely within their community," explained longtime producer, Michael LeGarde.

He's been with Native Report for 11 years. He said it never gets old, because he has the privilege of meeting all of these people, from artists to elders. Along with features, they also touch on the tough stuff, too, like suicide and drug abuse.

"We try and cover as much as possible within 15 episodes," he added.
