Danes, Finns, Icelanders, Norwegians, and Swedes came to America redefining themselves and the places they settled. Examine the Scandinavian-Americans’ experience of immigration and the process of Americanization in “Pretty Much 100% Scandinavian,” Tuesday night at 7 on PBS North.
It’s a rich journey of immigration, language, food, celebration, jokes, a tear or two – fueled by gallons of coffee. You’ll see the sights, hear the sounds and smile at the sly humor of Scandinavian-Americans farming, logging, milling, fishing, and following religious vocations. Plus, explore the importance of landmark institutions such as churches and colleges, the power of family and community, the vitality of arts and craft, the matter of language, and the enjoyment of humor.
