You’ll get the lowdown on Hibbing’s Dylan Days and highlights on Duluth Dylan Fest in this folk themed episode of The PlayList. Organizers from both cities share the details of a 10-day celebration of the region’s famous native, Bob Dylan, on his birthday.
The 2012 Duluth Dylan Fest officially kicks-off Friday, May 18th with “Desire in Duluth” at the Weber Music Hall of UMD. The benefit concert for the Armory Arts & Music Center features two legendary performers, famed violinist Scarlet Rivera and special guest Gene LaFond and The Wild Unknown. Rivera and LaFond are contemporaries of Bob Dylan and accompanied him on the famous Rolling Thunder Revue Tour of 1975 and 1976. Additional Duluth Dylan Fest events include a Blood on the Tracks rolling toast/train ride, a roundtable discussion about Dylan’s legacy, trivia contests, and live music at multiple locations. Inspired by Bob, organizers of Dylan Days in Hibbing are poised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dylan’s first album release. They’ve invited singer/songwriters and bands with a Dylan-esque sound and offer tours of significant landmarks Dylan experienced as a youth growing up in the Iron Range city. The event runs May 24-27, 2012 in downtown Hibbing. ( www.dylandays.org )
