Rich Mattson shares his Sparta Sound Studio during a rocking rehearsal session for one of his many musical outlets, a band called The Tisdales. Mattson has helped launch many music careers through his expert mixing and personal advice. The Iron Range native spent a decade playing music with various bands in the Twin Cities before converting an old church into his recording studio in Sparta. His band mates include Tony Derrick, Jason Kokal and Derek Lee.
We also preview the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival with organizers at the heart of this year's event. The brainchild of Duluthian Scott "Starfire" Lunt, the eight-day, nonstop festival is in its 13th year and has become the premiere showcase of original music in the region.
