Almanac North

Fridays at 8pm

Repeats Saturdays at 4:30pm

More than a Sound Bite

In a world of thirty second sound bites, Almanac North offers a refreshing news alternative. More than just headline news, the important topics of the day are subject to in-depth discussion. Each Friday night, local leaders and policy makers join hosts Julie Zenner and Dennis Anderson in a conversation of the week's regional news and events. You can join the dialogue too, connect online on Facebook or contact almanacnorth [at] wdse [dot] org (Almanac North) (218.788.2849) with your comments and point of view.

The Crew

Julie Zenner is a seasoned veteran of Almanac North and has co-hosted the program since 1993. Zenner comes from a solid news background in producing and reporting including producing a number of mini-documentaries for WDSE•WRPT's Album series.

Dennis Anderson, our newest member, recently retired from WDIO/WIRT in May, 2011 after 50-years as a broadcast journalist. In an ironic twist, Anderson takes the position formerly held by Darren Danielson, who left Almanac North to become Anderson’s replacement at WDIO/WIRT.

Producer Greg Grell has been in the news business for over 25 years. Hired by WDSE•WRPT in 1992 to launch Almanac North, Greg's tenure as producer spans 3 decades and brings continuity to the weekly public affairs program. The addition of Anderson to Almanac North is a reunion of former co-workers; Grell produced newscasts for Anderson from 1985 to 1992 at WDIO/WIRT.

Nick Clingman has been directing newscasts, designing and lighting studio sets, and editing video for over a decade. Hired in 2004, Clingman manages and directs all studio based programs at WDSE•WRPT including Almanac North, Native Report, The PlayList, Great Gardening and more.
