The new year erupts with volcanic activity! They are among the most spectacular and powerful forces on our planet, they create new land, change landscapes and destroy civilizations, but more than two billion years ago, volcanoes also breathed life into our world. Life on Fire offers a close up look at volcanoes, providing viewers with a never seen before look at their effect on the environment around them.

Wednesdays at 9pm on PBS North

Each episode paints survival stories around different volcanoes. From the dark abyss to pristine snow-capped peaks, spectacular scenery provides the backdrop for the extraordinary animals and plants that have learned to juggle with fire.
