An evening of surprises awaits you as the curtain rises for the newest presentation of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Live! on WDSE•WRPT. Under the baton of Music Director Markand Thakar, the DSSO presents an evening of “Surprising Tangos” featuring unique performances by an extremely talented artist on a very unique instrument.
Saturday, October 16, 8pm on PBS North (8.1/31.1)
Lidia Kaminska has performed with Placido Domingo in Washington, D.C.’s Constitution Hall; at Lincoln Center; and in countless Performing Arts Centers and Symphony Orchestras across the globe. On Saturday, October 16 at 8pm, Kaminska brings her talents on bandoneón (also known as an accordion) to the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra’s performance of “Surprising Tangos.” Kaminska is also featured on the October 14 broadcast of The PlayList, watch the episode online at theplaylistonline.org.
The evening’s performance begins with perhaps the most famous waltz ever written, J. Strauss’ Blue Danube Waltz; continues with a most intriguing and seductive set of tangos, Piazzolla’s Three Tangos performed by Lidia Kaminska; and concludes with a "fantastic" work for large orchestra with its famous march to the scaffold, Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique.
